The I2M covers a vast spectrum of pure and applied mathematics, as well as a wide range of scientific and industrial applications.

The Marseille Institute for Mathematics is a CNRS Joint Research Unit, under joint supervision with Aix-Marseille Université (AMU) and Centrale Marseille.

Geographically, the I2M is located on three sites: Château-Gombert, St Charles and Luminy. It has around 130 teacher-researchers, 30 CNRS researchers, 15 technical and administrative staff, 60 PhD students and 20 post-doctoral researchers.

Focus on AI/Health-related research teams:

Applied Analysis group (AA): the Applied Analysis group covers a very broad spectrum, from theoretical analysis of PDEs and numerical analysis to modeling in conjunction with other disciplines.

Applications are notably made to biology and medicine, through, for example, mathematical models for cancerology.

Groupe Mathématiques de l'Aléatoire (ALEA): two ALEA sub-groups are closely linked to the Institut Laënnec's thematic area, in which several researchers are involved or have been involved in research topics related to medical issues.
