The unit’s primary objective is to develop concrete AI-based solutions to address the needs of health researchers and clinicians, rather than the large-scale processing of health or research data.

Submit a request

Project leaders can express a need for assistance or support using a standard form availableat HERE and submit it via the submission platform HERE.

Selection Criteria

The decision to provide support for submitted projects is made by the unit’s Scientific Committee, which reviews each application and, based on the criteria (listed below), internal expertise, and availability, determines whether or not the unit will support the project.

  • Medical needs or issues;
  • Feasibility;
  • Data (access, quality, quantity, etc.);
  • Level of development complexity required (engineer-hours);
  • Level of technological readiness (TRL);
  • Involvement of external partners (industry, hospitals, etc.);
  • Internal or external funding;
  • Commercialization potential identified by the applicant (ANR funding, collaborations, publications, asset filings, etc.).

The selection criteria are neither cumulative nor mandatory; they serve as evaluation criteria to provide an overall assessment of the projects.

Application Evaluation Process

All submitted applications follow the same process:

  • Identification of the need and preparation of a feasibility report by the unit’s engineers:
    • Precise definition of the problem related to AI
    • Identification of the necessary AI skills
    • Identification of the steps required to carry out the project
    • Analysis of data availability and quality (based on information provided by the applicant)
    • Estimation of the projected duration
  • Submission of the revised feasibility report to applicants. Prior to this, a discussion may be arranged with the project leader to clarify certain points, if necessary.
  • Assessment of support capabilities: The unit reviews its internal expertise and availability to determine the scope and form of support it can provide.
  • Submission to the Scientific Committee to decide whether or not to approve the support and its form.
  • Feedback to the project sponsor: A favorable recommendation, including, if applicable, a proposal for support or an alternative course of action if support is not possible.

Identification and Promotion

Each project submitted to the Institute is analyzed by SATT Sud-Est to identify its potential for commercialization and technology transfer.

Scientific Committee

Composed of representatives from each of the partner institutes (Laënnec, Marseille Imaging, NeuroMarseille), CEDRE, and CISAM+, the committee is responsible for overseeing the Unit and selecting proposals. This committee will meet as needed.
