Bringing the power of digital technology and AI to the patient’s bedside

The mission of the Laënnec institute is to promote a dynamic interdisciplinary dialogue between doctors, computer scientists, physicists, mathematicians, as well as lawyers and ethicists, to meet the complex challenges of medical issues. At the crossroads of research and training, the institute is a showcase for multi-, inter- and cross-disciplinary collaboration. It provides concerted responses to medical issues arising in the field by developing operational and value-adding technical solutions, in compliance with ethical and legal standards, and focused on directly improving patient care using digital science and artificial intelligence.

The institute is initially focusing its efforts on two strategic areas: neuroscience and oncology-haematology, drawing on collaborative expertise in research, education and care. These sectors benefit from ongoing support, encouraging the emergence of new themes based on the experience and know-how acquired.

To ensure a comprehensive approach, the institute’s activities are structured around four areas of excellence: digital technologies for health, digital health data, digital health education, and the legal and ethical framework.

The Laënnec institute draws upon a strong, local socio-economic ecosystem, bringing together, on the Aix Marseille Université site, a large disciplinary and interdisciplinary force in digital sciences and artificial intelligence for health. Its aim is to position the region as a key, independent stakeholder in this field, while promoting the transfer and exploitation of healthcare innovations.
