As part of the Summit for Action on Artificial Intelligence, the Minister for Health and Access to Care, announced on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, during his visit to PariSanté Campus for the Challenges of AI in Healthcare event, the official publication of the État des lieux de l'intelligence artificielle en santé en France and the launch of work to build the roadmap for artificial intelligence in healthcare.

Publication of the state of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare in France

This strategic document takes stock of progress and prospects for the deployment of AI in our healthcare system, while offering players in the field a structured and concrete vision of the actions underway.

Artificial intelligence is a major lever for transforming medical practices and improving care paths. It can be used to optimize diagnosis, automate certain administrative tasks to free up caregivers' time, and streamline patient care processes. The state of the art of AI in healthcare presents:

  • Actions to assess the benefits and risks for patients and professionals: improved diagnostics, personalized care and optimized Resources management, for example.
  • Actions put in place to support innovation in projects embedding AI, notably, as part of France 2030 investments and the "Santé Numérique" (SASN) acceleration strategy.
  • A framework for evaluation, regulation and ethical principles to ensure trusted and secure AI, adapted to the requirements of the healthcare sector.

Strong commitments for the future of artificial intelligence in healthcare

This document reaffirms the commitments of the Ministry of Health and Access to Care to develop sovereign, competitive and trusted AI with several priorities:

  • Accelerating innovation by structuring a sustainable economic framework for AI innovations.
  • Support healthcare professionals through training and upskilling in AI technologies.
  • Develop a regulatory framework and best practices to secure uses and foster confidence among professionals and patients.
  • Evolve our healthcare technology assessment doctrine to take into account the specificities of AI.

These commitments will be translated into a roadmap for AI in healthcare, to be published before the summer of 2025. This roadmap will be discussed with all stakeholders (patients, caregivers, manufacturers, researchers, citizens) within the framework of a dedicated task force, brought together for the occasion within the Conseil du Numérique en santé and steered by the Délégation au numérique en santé in conjunction with the Direction générale de l'offre de soins (DGOS) and the Agence de l'innovation en santé (AIS).

The Summit for Action on Artificial Intelligence was an opportunity to bring together researchers, caregivers and entrepreneurs at PariSanté Campus to discuss the concrete solutions offered by AI in healthcare, and to co-construct the next steps in its development.
